Maria Casey

Registered Child and Family Psychologist
Maria’s several approaches to therapy include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, and Eye Movement and Desensitization Therapy (EMDR)

I am a Registered Child and Family Psychologist with over twelve years experience working with children, teenagers and families.

Difficulties I can help with:

  • Trauma
  • Anxiety
  • Low mood
  • Self-esteem & Self-worth
  • Life transitions
  • Emotional difficulties
  • Parenting

I work alongside children, teenagers and their parents to support self-awareness, and develop skills and strategies to help with managing anxiety, low mood and big emotions. I do my absolute best to help children and teenagers feel comfortable and at ease talking to me. I know how important relationships are in this line of work, and I do a good job of building connections with the young people I am lucky enough to meet in my job.

I have my own experiences of anxiety as a young person, and this was really what kickstarted my own love of psychology and working with children and teenagers to support them on their journey with mental health. This job is a privilege and I feel lucky to be part of the journey for children, teenagers and their families.

Some of the benefits of working with a Psychologist in therapy include:

  • Better understanding of yourself and your kids
  • Improved relationships with family and friends
  • Building skills to manage anxiety, low mood, emotions, and stress

My Counselling Approach

You, your child, and I will create a therapeutic plan that best suits your needs. I work 1:1 with children and teenagers, but usually also with their parents. In our first session together, I listen to what the concerns are for the young person, and what they would like help with. We make a plan together and take things step by step.

My work draws on several approaches to therapy such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, and Eye Movement and Desensitization Therapy (EMDR)

*We are currently not able to accept referrals for ADHD assessments.
